The Mode is dedicated to providing a place where quality cultural events, celebrations of life, and artistic pursuits thrive. The Mode supports creativity and merriment!
My Business
The Mode Theater was built in 1938 as a cinema theater, and provided audiences with several decades of first run movies. Falling victim to larger urban cinema-plexes, The Mode closed its doors in the 1980's. Remodeling occured in the late 1980's and 1990's when a young actress and her partner reopened the doors to one-act plays, concerts, art displays, and other artistic events. Circumstances forced the closing of the theater once again in 1999, and for four years, The Mode lay in wait. As it is today, The Mode reopened in June, 2003, to audiences and patrons anxious for its re-establishment. The Mode has grown over the years as technical capability has increased, and is now home to the Waterloo Film Fest every spring, which is held the week-end after the Wisconsin Film Fest in Madison. Renters of this beautiful hall enjoy the distinctive simplicity and fineness of the space.
Looking to the future............
In these times of unsettling economic realities and matters of the heart, it is with sadness and anticipation that I come to this moment of realizing I will one day, perhaps sooner than later, leave this grand old building and once again breathe the clear crisp air that dances among the pines in northern Wisconsin. A grandmother wishes to be with her family. And though the timing of all this is not of my choosing, really, I need to let go and let faith once again, have it's way. My real hope is that someone will take ownership who is more wise and talented than me....and that The Mode will only continue to grow in its importance and service to the community. Could that person be you?
